According to Bloomberg, Indonesia was delighted with the effectiveness of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine with which it treated health workers in the capital Jakarta. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, more than 25,000 of the workers vaccinated with Sinovac showed promising signs within 28 days after vaccination. None of them had died and that from the 7 th day following vaccination, 97% of these had avoided hospitalization. The data, the agency continues, adds to positive signs from Brazil that the Sinovac vaccine is more effective than it has been proven during the testing phase.

Indonesia was one of the first countries to show confidence in the Chinese vaccine. In January, President Joko Widodo became the first great world leader to receive an injection of Sinovac in an attempt to quell skepticism at home and abroad. Since then, Southeast Asia’s largest economy has administered more than 22 million doses, mostly of Sinovac, as it seeks to achieve collective immunity for its 270 million people by the end of the year.

Cambodia has donated and/or purchased over 2 million total doses of Sinovac. According to the government’s agenda, 60% of the population or 10 million people should be vaccinated by mid-2022.
